Water-Saving Effect of Superabsorbent Polymers on Ordos Sandy Soil
Utilization of Superabsorbent Polymers in Watersaving Agriculture offers a new way to improve water resources use efficiency and sustainable development In order to research the water-saving effect on sandy soil of Superabsorbent Polymers, four typical Superabsorbent Polymers were divided into two groups for studying. Analysis of variance, curve fitting methods was used to test and analyze the changes of soil moisture and soil available water, through which ascertained the suitable SAPs for Ordos sandy soil. Results show that :(1) Superabsorbent Polymers evidencely ameliorated soil water characteristics. Concentration of SAP from 0.5% to 1% had a typical significance to Ordos sandy soil.(2) Superabsorbent Polymers effectively improved the water holding capacity of soil, and the ameliorating effect in low Soil water suctions(<0.8MPa) obviously superior to the high Soil water suctions( > 0.8MPa).(3) In terms of soil available water of Ordos sandy soil, Polymers of Polyacrylate were better performance than Polymers of polyacrylamide in lower SAP concentrations (<0.5%),while in the higher SAP concentrations (> 0.5%) is the opposite.(4) The study showed that the content of available soil moisture decreased by 20% ~ 37% after stored in dry conditions for 5 years to AGROFORESTRY absorbent polymer.
