ESP and the Development of ESP as a Discipline

摘要：

English for specific purpose (ESP) is one of the important trends or branches of English language teaching. This paper tracks back on some literature works and discusses such aspects as the definition, classification, and the development of ESP as a discipline, etc. Meanwhile, some important factors regarding the classroom application are also explored for a better understanding of this practical field.
