Spoken English Class Design from a Discourse Approach
Most of the current teaching materials of Spoken English use decontextualized written grammars with a focus on sentence-level accuracy of utterances. While a discourse approach to teaching speaking shifts the focus to seeing language from the perspectives of lar ger textual units, thus would make it more effective in spoken English instruction. This paper examines the advantages of a discourse approach in Spoken English teaching and utilizes it to design a spoken English course.
