The Global Classroom: Theatre,Stories,Children and Culture

In the fall of 2008 and through the spring of 2009,theatre students enrolled in East Carolina Uni versitys THEA 3030,Theatre for Youth class, began a journey across continents, culture, and the arts as they linked with other university students in Lima, Peru and Saratov, Russia. An additional global component was the presence of two international students, one from Russia and one from Finland who were also enrolled in the theatre class at the university. The goals of the class were to collect stories from all of the countries to share with American elementary children in Eastern North Carolina, many of whom attend schools in rural areas and receive very little opportunities to experi ence the arts, much less, stories from other countries and cultures.
