International Videoconferencing for Public Health Education : Linking the U. S. and Germany
In preparing future public health educators and educated citizens, global health content should be inte grated into current curriculum using technology that engages and compels students to learn the basic prin ciples of international health. In addition, intercultur al communication has become a marketable skill for future public health professionals. Video linking with other countries provides a low-cost vehicle for students to learn more about health issues of other cultures and reflectively discuss the public health pro motion and education activities of those countries in real time. This article presents a case study of inter national videoconferencing in the higher education setting, as well as an assessment of the impact of the learning modality on the student participants. Recom mendations for the use of video linking with other countries to foster a greater understanding of global health are also provided.
