Planetary Formation Using SPH Simulation

We present our preliminary work on the simulation of planetary formation using Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamic (SPH) adapted for a desktop computer. The number of particles is arbitrarily chosen 1000 to allow the program running well, with initial mass of each particle is set equal to 108 kg, the kinetic energies are initially set to zero, and the temperature are set to 100 K. With these inputs, we run some model to simulate a protoplanetary disk. The particles are distributed randomly, covering a radius less than 100 AU. Artificial shocks are given at certain position to see how they may affect the system. During the course of its evolution, up to a time ~ 9000 years, some small bodies (M ~ 1010 kg) are created. However, the number of particle and the total mass of the system are likely undersampled to represent a standard nebula. The total time calculated is also not long enough compared to a core accretion model. A further work is planned to undertake.
