Double Degenerates as the Gravitational Wave Radiation Sources in the Galaxy
Double degenerates (DDs) are thought to dominate the galactic gravita tional wave radiation background in the frequency range from O.lmHz to lOOmHz. We systematically studied the production of DDs via a binary population synthesis ap proach, and examined their contributions to the galactic gravitational wave radiation background. From a sample of lOr binaries, we obtained 37460 DDs with frequencies from 10-8 to 10-2Hz (the detection limit of space interferometers (LISA) is designed to be at 2.5mHz). The Galactic birthrate of DDs is O.Olyr-1, similar to that of previ ous studies. Our result indicates that DDs are important gravitational wave radiation background sources.
