Helical Magnetic Field Associated with Jet in NRAO 530 on Parsec Scale
Evidences of a helical magnetic field wrapping around the jet of NRAO 530 are presented through multi-frequency polarimetric observations with VLBA in February 1997. By using the 5, 8, and 15 GHz electric vector position angle (EVPA) distributions, the rotation measure (RM) distribution is obtained, with the observed RM ranging from about -130 rad m-2 to 350 rad m-2. The RM gradients across the jet is systemic, with RM variation somewhat nonmonotonic near the core, and becoming monotonic further outer. This may attribute to the core emission region having more than one components blended together due to lower resolution. In addi tion, we find a signature of electric vector bifurcating to the opposite directions from the local jet spine, which means that a real spinesheath polarization structure might exist in the source. The RM gradients across jets and signature of EVPA spine sheath structure indicate that a helical magnetic field exists, which gives strong support for the important role of magnetic field in jet formation, acceleration and collimation.
