Phase Averaged Gamma-ray Emission from Pulsars with Outer Gaps
We study the phase-averaged spectra of gamma-ray pulsars based on the vacuum outer gap model. In this model, the outer gap is sustained by the pair pro duction via the interaction of the soft X-ray photons with the curvature gamma-ray photons. The local fractional size f (r) of the outer gap can be estimated when the period P, magnetic field B and inclination angle a are given. There are two improve ments in our calculation, first we use the new equation of the electronic field given by Tang et al. to estimate f(r) and the local Lorentz factor of the primary particles. Second, we estimate the gamma-ray emission from particles moved along the central field lines in the outer gap instead of along the last open field lines. There are only one free parameter a in our calculation. We use this model to explain the phase aver aged spectra for five known EGRET gamma-ray pulsars, also reproduce the gamma ray spectrum from CTA I piilsar, a newly discovered gamma ray pulsar by the Fermi Gamma Ray Space Telescope.
