One-dimensional Accelerator in Outer Magnetosphere of the Vela Pulsar
We examine the one-dimensional vacuum accelerator in the outer mag netosphere of rotation-powered pulsars by considering the limit of trans-field height through pair production process. In this model, using the limit of the trans-field height through pair production process, both the Poisson equation for electrical potential and the Boltzmann equations of particles and gamma-rays are solved self-consistently. We apply this model to Vela pulsar and find that (1) the length of the vacuum outer gap along the open field lines can extend from the inner boundary to the light cylinder radius approximately and (2) the relation between the electric field and trans-field height has an important effect on the structure of the outer gap.
