A Search of IDV Sources around J1819+3845

The quasar J1819+3845 has shown rapid amplitude variability (of up to 300%) in radio flux density on time scales of hours. The fast intra-day variability (IDV) was ascribed to the interstellar scintillation (ISS) of radio waves in the turbulent interstellar medium of the Milky Way (Dennett-Thorpe & de Bruyn 2000). In order to set limits to the angular size of the scintillating screen, we observed several sources in the vicinity of J1819+3845 with the Effelsberg 100 m and Urumqi 25 m radio telescope at 5 GHz. The sources were selected from the VLBA calibrator survey. The scattering screen covers only J1819+3845, and the most nearby sources do not show such rapid IDV.
