The Correlations between Luminosity and Ring Size in Resonance-ringed Galaxies
Recently, the author re-analyzed the statistical correlations between the ring sizes and galaxy near-infrared luminosities in field galaxies bearing resonance rings (ringed galaxies). The new analysis was based on statistically complete samples and an improved linear-regression method. It has been found that the galaxy near-infrared luminosities are nearly proportional to ring sizes. Such correlations have important implications on galaxy dynamics. Such correlations can also be used as a new dass of standard rulers/candles to accurately measure the Hubble Constant.
