Astro-HS-An Astronomical Observation Network for High School Students in Japan
Astro-HS is a nationwide network of high school astronomy clubs. It started as the Leonids Observation Project in 1998, the leonid meteor shower was ex pected in autumn. The most important purpose of this project is that students have a real experience to observe astronomical phenomena. We have observed various astro nomical phenomena, such as; Partial solar eclipse (2002), Mercury Transit(2003,2006), Venus transit(2004),Total lunar eclipse(2000,2007), and so on. We got great results through this project. More than 15,000 students participated in Astro-HS in the last 10 years. The observation theme of this year is the Sun, which has just come into another cycle of activity. Observation of the Sun will lead us to the activity of the Astro-HS 2009, because in 2009, we will be able to observe the solar eclipse all over Japan.
