A Voice of Her Own : A Feminist Stylistic Analysis of Jane Eyre, To the Lighthouse and Bridget Joness Diary
Feminist Stylistics : Definition and History Sara Mills defines Feminist Stylistics in broad terms, stating that it is concemed with the analysis of the way that questions of gender impact on the production and interpretation of texts (2006: 221). However, as she points out in her earlier work, neither part of the term, either feminist or stylistics, are necessarily used or understood in unified ways. Both terms are contested, have complex histories and incorporate a number of perspectives through their interdisciplinarity. In order to understand the eclectic and diverse territory that feminist stylistics might embrace , I begin by tracing the origins and development of work that might come under this umbrella term.
