The Social Agency of Verbal Art : How Far Can A Systemic Approach Usefully Go in Modelling the Context of Creation?
Stylistic argumentation proceeds by systematizing the sampling of texts, by making textual comparisons, and by establishing statistical generalizations.Analyses of style( and of variation more generally) further require that a systematic method becomes increasingly systemic -only by mapping out the paradigms of selection available in particular acts of meaning making can we argue for the value of a given selection ( namely, its degree of markedness; its relation to a pattem of similar choices; or its apparent contrast to a set of choices which may be, paradoxically, of similar value in this particular instance of text).Humans, as cultural performers ( as social artists) , range across many modes of meaning as they enact their social memberships. But we can ask ourselves: what of the social contexts of conventional modes of interaction can be brought to bear in the systemic analysis of verbal art ?
