Metalanguage in the Making of Fiction

1.Introduction Although it is nearly five decades since Roman Jakobson discovered the metalingual function of language in his well-known closing statement Linguistics and Poetics at the Style Conference in Indiana in 1958, published in Jakobson (1960) , specialized study on metalingual function or metalanguage in literature has been rare, except for some discussions on literary metalanguage, e.g.in the sense of a set of conceptual and analytical tools ( Pier, 1985).
