Design and Implementation of Highly Efficient Resistance Measurement System for DSL Splitter

Digital subscriber lines (DSL) offer the possibility to deliver broadband services over the existing telephone network. Yet, before deploying DSL, the DSL splitter’s resistance must be test to see if it can support high-speed data service. This paper discusses the feasibility and the challenges of quickly measurement for batch DSL splitters’ channels loop direct-current (DC) resistance and insulating resistance. The method of DSL splitter resistance measurement based on multipath channels and high common-mode voltage amplifier is proposed. The DSL splitter’s channels loop resistance and insulating resistance are collected via leakage current measurement on the high voltage point. The principle of measuring DSL splitter resistance based on multipath channel is analyzed, and the leakage current quickly detecting circuit is designed. The leakage current is converted through high common-mode voltage amplifier and ADC. The equipment applied with the measurement method can fast detect a batch of DSL splitters’ channels loop resistance and insulating resistance. The experimental results show that the novel method of DSL splitter resistance measurement is very successful.
