PHYSICAL & MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF ALKALINE PROXIDE MECHANICAL PULP (APMP) FROM PAULOWNIA (Paulownia fortunei),CULTIVATED IN IRAN
To produce alkaline peroxide mechanical pulp (APMP) from Paulownia, a fast growing species cultivated in Iran, 3 logs were prepared. As chemical treatment, Chemical solvents were 3% peroxide,3.5% Sodium Silicate, 0.5% DTPA, 6%Sodium Hydroxide based on dry weight with three consumption ratios 40:60, 50 : 50 and 60 : 40 at the first impregnation stage and second stage. Also, as thermal treatment, presteamingto chips was done for 20 minutes in the first stage, and in second stage, two levels of thermal treatment time (90 and 105 minutes) were applied. In addition to brightness and yield, mechanical and physical properties of handmade papers, produced from alkaline peroxide mechanical pulp of Paulownia fortune in the different refining levels were messured. Results of statistical analysis showed that increasing time from 90 to 105 minutes and using 60% NaOH in the first stage improves pulp brightness and reduces yield.
