CHARACTERIZATION OF FINES WITH USE OF FLOW CYTOMETRY

Fines have a considerable impact on paper properties, especially for furnish mixes that are dominated by mechanical fibers. Although several studies of fines and their influence on paper properties have been carried out during the past decades there are few adequate and quick methods to characterize fines. In this study the potential of using Flow Cytometry as a tool to characterize fines was evaluated. The results indicate that flow cytometry has a potential to be used to characterize fines by means of size and shape.
