ZERO-EFFLUENT P-RC APMP PROCESS:SILICATE FREE BLEACHING WITH FENNOBRITE
High brightness hardwood chemi-mechanical pulps are today most commonly bleached with hydrogen peroxide. Process conditions in the peroxide bleaching are challenging: high pH, high temperature and transition metals may decompose peroxide. To prevent peroxide decomposition, special stabilizers, like sodium silicate, are used. However, in zeroeffluent mills utilizing evaporation plants for waste water treatment silicate scaling might become an issue. This article will present results from pilot scale eucalyptus P-RC APMP tests, where silicate was replaced with a silicate-free Fennobrite?peroxide stabilizer. Brightness levels up to 80+ %ISO were reached. Based on pilot scale results, Fennobrite?products were selected for industrial scale operation
