RELEASE OF URONIC ACID DURING ALKALINE PEROXIDE BLEACHING OF ASPEN CTMP
Aspen CTMP were bleached with alkaline hydrogen peroxide and the effects of various factors, including sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide dosage, bleaching temperature and time, and bleaching consistence on the release of uronic acids during bleaching process was evaluated. The contents of uronic acids in the process waters were determined by spectrophotometric method. The results showed that the release of uronic acids was mainly affected by the system alkalinity. The effect of H2O2 on the release of uronic acids is not obvious. More H2O2 will further oxidize uronic acids to low molecular carboxylic acid derivatives lowering uronic acids content in DCS. A majority of uronic acid could release into the pulp system at the initial stages of bleaching. High bleaching temperature could enhance the release of uronic acids.
