APPLICATION OF GRAFTED STARCH POLYMER TO APMP SIZING
APMP is widely used in producing newsprints and light-weight- coated papers because it gives high bulk and good scattering properties. But there are disadvantages of paper produced by APMP such as low strength and poor sizing efficiency. AKD、ASA internal sizing is often used to improve paper water resistance and the size is often emulsified by using cationic starch. In this paper, the grafted starch was synthesized as a new sizing agent, and its application to APMP- containing paper sheets, was stuided. The results showed that when 0.2％ grafted starch was used in APMP, a better application effect was achieved.Compared with the control, the tensile index, burst index, tear index of the sized hand sheet increased by 240.3％, 215.0％, 6.6％, respectively; but the bulks, whiteness, opacity, and light scattering coefficient of the sized hand sheet decreased by 5.7％, 5.4％, 2.5％, 1.1％, respectively; the Cobb value reduced from 62.3 g/m2 to 27.1g/m2.
