STUDY ON PERFORMANCE OF PAPER MADE FROM POPLAR APMP FIBERS ADSORBING MULTILAYER STARCH

The surface of poplar APMP fibers was successively coated with modified starch such as cationic starch and anionic starch based on layer-by-layer deposition technique and electrostatic attraction mechanism of cation with anion. The effects of inorganic electrolyte specie, pulp concentration and dosage of starch each time on paper strength index and starch retention rate were mainly investigated. The results showed that when aluminium chloride concentration, pulp concentration, dosage of starch each time, adsorption time and pH were respectively 12.0 mM, 1.6%, 50 mg·g-1 fibers, 5 min and 5.0, burst index, ring crush index, tearing index and tensile index of the paper coated with three-layer starch were increased respectively by 95.74%, 62.88%, 93.53% and 88.53% compared with the control sample without starch adsorption. Under the same condition, starch retention rate, burst index, ring crush index, tearing index and tensile index were increased respectively by 97.35%, 41.54%, 42.89%, 53.02%, 45.79% compared with the control sample with the adsorption of monolayer cationic starch.
