Age And Block Based Inspections Based on The Delay Time Concept
This paper presents two inspection models based the well known delay time concept: an age-based inspection policy where the inspection schedule restarts at the time of a failure; and a block-based inspection policy where the inspection schedule is fixed regardless of the individual items ages. Both policies can be found examples in industrial practice, but not formally addressed. The idea is similar to age and block based replacement, but with the aim to find an optimal inspection schedule rather than replacement time. Age-based inspection models have been studied previously, though not under mis title, but very few addressed block-based inspection due to the difficulty to calculate the forward time from an inspection to failure. We present in this paper few examples to show such two inspection policies do exist in practice and then develop the availability-based models associated with each policy. The developed models are demonstrated by numerical examples.
