Game Analysis in Empty Containers Collaboration between Shipping Companiesunder Uncertain Demand
The container transportation market competition becomes increasingly fierce with the rapid development of container business. The key factor facing this situation is to improve the efficiency in transportation and increase the utilization of empty container. Hence, shipping companies share their containers through cooperation to minimize the container transportation costs, especially in empty containers allocation. This paper focuses on how to establish a stable cooperation effectively and prevent the cooperation rupture limited to the shortterm speculation. The paper will construct duopoly collusion game in containers transportation and allocation situation to analyze the behavior between shipping companies. And this paper will develop the forming conditions of their cooperation and design the breach penalty through the comparison of multiperiod net present profit between independent transportation and cooperative sharing empty containers. Two stages will be involved in. At stage 1, the shipping companies face certain demand of container business in which a general analyzing framework will be proposed. In addition, at stage 2, we will discuss the situation that the demand of shipping companies is uncertain, which is much more complicated but close to actual based on the first phase. We put forward an analysis framework with numerical simulation and neural network combined to handle the uncertainty, which can provide more useful guide for establishing the stable cooperation in long term.
