Analyzing Process Logic Gaps between Weil-Behaved Process Models
Process model comparison has been applied in various application domains, e. g. benchmarking, standard software implementation, and process benchmarking, etc. Some studies compared process models by computing their similarity degree from 0 (completely different) to 1 (completely identical). But, it is not enough when someone wants to know the exact process logic gaps between process models. Others developed approaches to identify the exact process logic gaps between process models by more or less man-made intervention. This may result in an inconsistent outcome. This research applied the string coding and comparison techniques to analyze the process logic gaps between well-behaved process models. There are three portions in this approach. First, two well-behaved process models for comparison are transformed into structured process models. Then, the transformed structured process models are coded into alphabetical process strings and the exclusive process path strings are derived from the process strings. Finally, the gaps in unique activities, processing mode and processing sequence are identified between process path strings of compared process models for process logic gaps analysis.
