The Impact of Deposit and Production Rate Transition Strategy for a Production Line with Impatient Customers

Most analyses of make-to-stock production control system assume either all orders are eventually met (complete backordering) or that no customers are willing to wait (lost sales). However, in real manufacturing the customer maybe just queues in the line but reneges after an amount of time for impatient. To reduce the loss of impatient customer, deposit is required by some manufactures which may alleviate the renege behavior of the customers. In this paper, the production system with customer impatient and deposit is modeled as an assembly queue network. By means of Markov chain method, the system performance is derived and the impacts of customer impatient and deposit on performance of the line are analyzed. Moreover, the optimal deposit setting policy and production planning policies are discussed from view of economic.
