Review and Research on Product Service System Design Methodology

Product Service System (PSS) and other similar terminologies have emerged in industrial field aiming at meeting customers result-oriented need and improving companies competitiveness with lower environmental cost. This paper reviews the PSS definitions, PSS categories* and challenges and strategies of manufacturing enterprises. The engineering design methodology of PSS plays a critical role in PSS research field, and has a direct influence on the content of PSS solution. This paper focuses on reviewing the existing PSS design methodologies which are relatively complete. In the whole PSS design process, conceptual design is the most important stage and decides the design success a lot. Three key aspects of PSS conceptual design are identified in this paper, and a new PSS design methodology is discussed and described from the three aspects. This methodology begins with analyzing users goals and constructing task model, and models the integrated product and service concept in the conceptual product-service blueprint.
