Using Multivariate Quality Control Chart with Variable Sampling Interval for SMT Manufacturing

The application of Automated Visual Inspection (AVI) systems in Surface Mount Technology (SMT) manufacturing process makes the automated inspection technology possible. A multivariate quality control chart with variable sampling interval is proposed in this paper. Based on a regression model of the design of experiment (DOE) process, the mean vector and the covariance matrix can be adjusted according to the noise inspected on-line. Then the statistical value of quality characteristics X2 will be calculated. The next sampling interval shall be acquired according to the position of X2 within the feasible region. A case study verifies the effectiveness and practicability of this control chart.
