A Study on Real-Time Maintenance Scheduling for Improving Manufacturing Systems Profitability and Productivity

With the rapid and continuous changes of business conditions, maintenance schedule plays a significant role in improving manufacturing systems profitability and productivity. This paper proposes a real-time maintenance policy for series manufacturing systems based on maintenance time window (MTW) theory. Firstly, a hybrid hazard rate recursion evolution is developed to integrate the impact of internal and external factors into maintenance scheduling. Then, a global-objective model (GOM) is studied for intelligent monitored single-unit machines to make the machine-level decision, which can synthesize the maximization of availability and the minimization of cost. Furthermore, an optimization method for the system-level scheduling is developed based on the proposed conception of MTW. Thus, the system maintenance schedule is dynamically determined by utilizing maintenance opportunities throughout its mission lifetime. The case study shows that the results obtained by using this MTW based policy are much more significant than those gained from the conventional policies.
