An Integrated Plan of Production and Preventive Maintenance under Reliability Constraint

This paper presents an integrated model for production and preventive maintenance (PM) at the tactical level. The production plan is based on the single-level multi-item capacitated lot-sizing problem (CLSP), and the manufacturing system is subject to the accumulative run. In order to guarantee the feasibility of the production plan, the system has to be kept above certain reliability threshold and unexpected breakdown is not considered. We incorporate the run-based PM into the production plan to satisfy the reliability constraint, and this relationship is initially formulated as nonlinear integer constraints in the mathematical model. These constraints are linearized and thus the model can be solved by CPLEX directly. Finally, a numerical example shows run-based PM is more economical and flexible than time-based PM.
