REVERSE SHOULDER REPLACEMENT
In 1987, Grammont first reported on a redesigned reverse shoulder. This new design consisted of a cemented, all polyethylene humeral cups and a metallic glenoid component. The glenoid was twothirds of a sphere and was cemented in place. Most importantly, the sphere was not lateralized, placing the center of rotation very near the intact glenoid bone. In 1991, the reverse shoulder arthroplasty based on the design of Professor Paul Grammont was released commercially in France. The humeral cup component was a stemmed metallic implant, similar to many anatomic prostheses available.
