Partial-thickness TearRecognition and Treatment
Arthroscopic management of rotator cuff tear on the articular surface depends on the degree of injury and should be individualized. Superficial injury such as abrasion or fraying on the articular side can be successfully debrided as long as tendinopathy is minimal. Sizable tear should be repaired although debates still remains whether Ellman grade 2 tear should be repaired or debrided. Severe degeneration of the rotator cuff tendon can be treated by excision of the degeneration area and repair of the healthy tendon to the tuberosity. Similarly, when repairing the torn rotator cuff tendon, appropriate debridement of the margin of the tear is often crucial for complete elimination of postoperative pain. Other option for degenerative tendinopathy is microdebridement using radiofrequency stimulation device.
