RAIL TRANSIT PASSENGER SATISFACTION INDEX A Structural Equation Model for the Beijing Case

This paper is aimed at developing a Structural Equation Model for evaluating passengers’ satisfaction index based on the case study of Beijing metro lines. Twenty four observable variables are adopted to evaluate different aspects of the service provided for passengers. And they are related to six structural variables, namely service on platform, service in compartments, passenger expectation, perceptual qualification, perceptual value and passenger satisfaction index. Based on 723 valid answers to the questionnaires collected at metro station, the model was calibrated. As a result, the proposed SEM model showed statistical significance as well as a high level of model fitness (GFI = 0.905). The model results gave the top five important aspects of improving service such as fare price, time interval, punctuality rate, operating steadiness of train and brightness and tidiness in station.
