PYROLYSIS AND GASIFICATION CHARACTERISTICS OF ALKALINE BLACK LIQUOR

In order to study pyrolysis and CO2 gasification behavior of alkaline black liquor (ABL), thermochemical and evolution patterns of volatile products was investigated by using the technology of thermogravimetric analyzer coupled with Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (TG-FTTR). TG results show pyrolysis and gasification of ABL could be divided into three distinct phases of weight loss, 5.92%, 32.64% and 29.33%, respectively. By analyzing online FTIR spectra carefully, we find that the main composition of evolved gas from the ABL includes carbon monoxide, water, methane, methanol, aldehydes and ketones and benzene series. Water and methanol contribute to the mass loss rate at low temperatures; carbon monoxide, benzene series, aldehyde and ketone contribute to the mass loss rate at high temperatures. The existence of carboxylate and phenolate sites in alkaline lignin has intensively increased the yield of carbon monoxide.
