PREPARATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF LIGNOSULFONATE FROM ALKALI EXTRACTED LIGNIN
A lignosulfonate was prepared from alkali extracted lignin by oxidation and sulfomethylation. Lignin was treated by the mixture of hydrogen peroxide and ferrous sulfate, subsequently sulfomethylated by formaldehyde and sodium sulfite. The number average relative molecular mass of the resulting lignosulfonate was 1400, while that of alkali extracted lignin was 4600. The sulfonic group content of lignosulfonate increased with the increase in the consumption of sodium sulfite or the increase in the sulfonation time. The maximum content of sulfonic group in lignosulfonate achieved approximately 1.3mmol/g. The surface activity of lignin was improved after oxidation and sulfomethylation.
