SYNTHESIS, PROPERTIES AND APPLICATIONS OF CELLULOSE LAURATE ESTER OBTAINED BY HOMOGENEOUS REACTION
Under homogeneous reaction conditions (HRC), cellulose was reacted with lauroyl chloride to prepare cellulose laurates. The effects of reaction temperature, time, dosage of lauroyl chloride and catalyst on the yield of the cellulose ester and degree of substitution were investigated by single factor and orthogonal tests. The structure and properties of the cellulose esters were characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, contact angle and SEM. And the adsorbing performances on organic molecules of the cellulose esters were also investigated. It was found that cellulose ester with DS from 0.6~ 2.4 can be obtained by our method. Based on the results of variance analysis, the significances of the factors were found to be as follows: reaction temperature and the dosage of lauroyl chloride that followed by reaction time, and the amount of catalyst. The cellulose esters showed excellent performance in absorbing organic molecules in waste streams. The advantage of such adsorbents was that they can be regenerated and reused for several times without loosing their absorption capacities.
