OPTIMIZING THE PERFORMANCE OF H2O2 ACTIVATORS ON Po STAGE OF STRAW SODA-AQ PULP WITH RSM
The effects of the activators of H2O2 on oxygen pressurized hydrogen peroxide bleaching were statistically investigated by employing response surface methodology (RSM). Polynomial estimation models of four response variables namely brightness, viscosity, kappa number and yield were developed. Each model comprised of four-independent variables: reaction temperature, dosage of H2O2, type of activator, dosage of activator. The calculated optimum condition (120 °C reaction temperature, 4% H2O2, TAED(tetraacetylethylenediamine) as activator, 1.5% TAED) was capable to produce pulp with ISO brightness 84.9%, pulp viscosity 570 ml/g, kappa number 1.4, yield 91.1%, which were proven close to the predicted values calculated from estimation models. The result indicated that TAED was the best activator and the combination of the bleaching condition had the ability to increase pulp brightness without substantial reduction in viscosity and yield, which appeared to be beneficial for the application of straw pulp.
