RESEARCH ON PULPING PROPERTIES OF MIXED WOODCHIPS OF POPLAR AND EUCALYPTUS IN CTMP PROCESS

In this paper, pulping properties of mixed poplar and eucalyptus woodchips in CTMP process were studied, with special focuses on the fiber morphology of corefined poplar and eucalyptus, and changes on pulp properties caused by different proportions of poplar and eucalyptus in the mixed woodchips. It was found that, in the CTMP from the mixed woodchips, the poplar fiber was further fibrillated when the pulp was refined to lower freeness, while the cell wall of eucalyptus fiber invariably kept its smooth surface. Increasing the eucalyptus content in the mixed woodchips incurred the decrease of shives content, brightness, tensile index and tearing index for the CTMP, but fines content and bulk can be increased.
