ACID-CATALYZED ORGANO-SOLVENT PULPING PROCESS IN THE PRESENCE OF PHENOL

A preliminary study on acid-catalyzed organo-solvent pulping process in the presence of phenol was investigated. Effect of different process factors such as temperature, time, liquor-to-wood ratio and catalyst concentration on pulping were discussed. The acacia mangium chips were cooked at the temperature of 140°C, phenol to wood ratio 8:1 and catalyst concentration 2% for 2h. The screen yield was 49.15% and the kappa number was 27.12. These results showed that the phenol pulping method has considerable potential in terms of delignification selectivity and comprehensive utilization of wood resources. Theoretically, the wood utilization can be up to 100%. Moreover, this new process could be an alternative solution for clean production to realize the effective separation of multi-compositions biomass.
