CELL MORPHOLOGY OF CORN STOVER FRACTIONS
Cell morphological characteristics of corn stover fractions were investigated by light microscopy, fiber quality analyzer and scanning electronic microscope. Corn stalk rind, stalk pith and leaf have obviously different cell morphologies. Com stalk rind has the best fiber morphological characteristics for papermaking fiber sources. Stalk pith is definitely not suitable for papermaking. Leaf blade and leaf sheath have quite similar fiber dimensions. There are obvious heterogeneity among the fractions and cells. The heterogeneous morphologies and structures of different fractions with various cells may have influence on the mass transfer and reaction dynamics during physical, chemical and biological processes.
