EUCALYPTUS PULP BLEACHING USING LACCASE WITH NATURAL/ SYNTHETIC MEDIATORS
In this study, eucalyptus pulp was bleached using laccase-natural/synthetic mediator-system (LMS) and ECF bleaching sequences. LMSQP and D(EOP)D bleaching sequences were carried out respectively. HBT (synthetic-mediator) and eight different natural plant phenols, namely vanillin, vanillic adic, syringalderhyde, syringic acid, hydroxybenzaldehyde, hydroxybenzoic acid, acetosyringone, ferulic acid were used as mediators in laccase bleaching. The performances of the eight natural mediators were evaluated. Properties of bleached pulps were compared and the pollution loads of bleaching effluents including CODCTand BOD5 were discussed. The contents of HexA acid were also analyzed.
