ADSORPTION OF STICKIES TO FILLERS AND ITS EFFECT ON STICKIES DEPOSITION
The stickies deposition is a serious problem during the recycling of waste paper, and the fillers such as talc and calcium carbonate are one of the important components of stickies deposits. A pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) was used as the model substance of the secondary stickies and the adsorption of stickies onto the fillers and its effect on the stickies deposition was discussed. The results showed that the stickies particles could be adsorbed onto the fillers such as talc and precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC), which caused the destabilization of the stickies particles. The destabilization of secondary stickies was intensified in presence of cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM). Compared to talc, PCC could adsorb more stickies particles and enhance the flocculation of CPAM to secondary stickies, and if the flocculated stickies particles could be adsorbed on the fibers in presence of effective cationic polymers, the stickies deposits would decrease.
