STUDY ON THE TREATMENT OF DISSOLVED AND COLLOIDAL SUBSTANCES PRESENT IN ASPEN BCTMP WITH LACCASE AND LACCASE/VIOLURIC ACID
The effect of biological treatment with a commercial laccase and violuric acid on the characteristics of dissolved and colloidal substances (DCS) released from aspen bleached chemithermomechanical pulp was investigated.The results indicated that both the laccase treatment and the laccase/violuric acid treatment could lead to the decrease of the cationic demand and the average particle size of DCS.Compared with the laccase treatment,the average particle size was further decreased for laccase/violuric acid treatment.The turbidity and the content of lignin were increased by the laccase treatment compared with the controlled sample.However,the laccase/violuric acid treatment gave rise to the decrease of the turbidity and the content of lignin.Gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrum analysis showed that the amount of lignin derivatives was increased after treatment with laccase and laccase/violuric acid.This might be induced by the degradation of lignin macromolecule.The total amounts of fatty acids were decreased by 18% and by 33% respectively after laccase and laccase/violuric treatments.Meanwhile,the glyceride and the steryl ester were not detected by GC-MS.This verified the degrading ability of laccase and laccase/violuric acid on some extractives including the glyceride and the steryl esters.This research is of significance for better understanding and control of potential pitch problems originating from chemimechanical pulp.
