SYNTHESIS OF GLYCIDYL METHACRYLATE GRAFTED FIBER AND ITS OIL-ABSORPTIVITY

Cellulose-g-GMA (glycidyl methacrylate) was obtained by grafting GMA onto bleached eucalyptus pulp induced by Fe2+-H2CO2-thioureadioxide (TD) redox system via the crosslinking reaction of diallyl phthalate (DAP).Effects of reaction temperature, monomer dosage,H2O2 dosage,TD dosage,DAP dosage and liquor ratio on oil-absorptivity of cellulose-g-GMA were studied.Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR),X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) analyses of cellulose-g-GMA showed that GMA had been successfully grafted into the cellulose backbone. The maximum oil-absorptivity of cellulose-g-GMA was 17.6 g/g when grafting percentage was between 85.0%~90.0% at DAP dosage of 5.0%.Under certain conditions, the oil absorption ratio increased with the increase of grafting percentage. The contact angle and epoxy group content were proportional to grafting percentage. The fiber surface polarity directly influences the oil-absorptivity of grafted fiber.
