FURTHER UNDERSTANDING TOWARDS EFFECTS OF CELLULOSIC FIBER CONSISTENCY DURING CONDUCTIVE FIBERS PREPARATION
The effect of fiber consistency during the preparation of conductive fibers based on the in-situ polymerization of pyrrole (Py) on the product performance and characteristics was studied by varying the fibers consistency from 1% to 20%.It was found that at a very low consistency (e.g.1%),the electrical resistivity of the conductive fibers achieved is inferior, due to the fact that less PolyPy (PPy) retained on the fibers. As the fiber consistency increased from 1 to 6%,the resistivity decreased significantly. In the medium consistency range (10 to 18%) the resistivity of the conductive fibers was decreased by about 100 times than that at 1% fiber consistency, under otherwise the same conditions. The TEM images support the conclusion that at the medium fiber consistency, the polypyrrole (PPy) are not only on the fiber surface, but also inside the fiber wall, suggesting that the resistivity of conductive fibers did not only depend on the PPy on the surface of fibers, but also relied on the inner distribution of PPy inside the fiber wall.
