BUILDING CHITOSAN/ANIONIC POLYACRYL-AMIDE POLYELECTROLYTE MULTILAYERS ON OCC FIBERS UNDER DIFFERENT PH CONDITIONS
The effect of recycling on physical strength of OCC fibers was studied. It was shown that the physical strength of recycled fiber dropped sharply with the increase of recycled times. From the beginning to the fourth reuse, the breaking length, tear index and ring crush index of the recycled fiber was reduced by 49.24%,58.92%,50.77%,respectively.In order to improve the physical strength of OCC fibers,a series of chemical treatments have been conducted to modify the surface of OCC fibers.Chitosan(CS) and anionic polyacrylamide (APAM) were used to build up polyelectrolyte multilayers on recycled fibers based on the technology of layer-by-layer self-assembly.The effect of pH value during adsorption on the layer-bylayer self-assembly was also discussed.SEM was introduced to observe the morphology of the CS/APAM multilayers, zeta potential analyzer was adopted to monitor the dynamic features of pulp slurry during the polyelectrolyte multilayers build up.Strength measurements of the sheets including burst index and tensile index showed significant improvements, which depend on the type of polyelectrolyte in the outer layer.
