Effect of mulberry varieties on life history parameters of Tetranychus cinnabarinus Boisduval(Acari:Tetranychidae)
The carmine spider mite, Tetranychus cinnabarinusBoisduval, is a very polyphagous pest with a worldwide distribution. In order to assess life history parameters of this mite, the effect of four different mulberry varieties(‘Liaoyu-166’, ‘Yiningbaisang’, ‘Husang-5’, ‘Da-10’) on biological parameters of T.cinnabarinus was investigated in the laboratory at 28 ± 1 ℃ , 60 ± 10%RH and 16L:8Dphotoperiod. Duration of development time, longevity, Fecundity, the intrinsic rate of natural increase (rm), net reproductive rate (R0), mean generation time (T), doubling time (DT), and finite rate of increase (λ) of the spider mite on the four mulberry varieties were calculated. Differences in fertility life table parameters of the spider mite among mulberry varieties were analyzed using pseudo-values, which were produced by jackknife re-sampling. The results indicated that ‘Liaoyu-166’was the most resistant mulberry varieties for T. cinnabarinuspopulation growth due to the longer developmental period (9.475days), shorter adult longevity (19.517days), lower reproduction (29.897eggs), and intrinsic rate of natural increase (0.256).Implication of result in the control of T. cinnabarinuson mulberry is discussed.
