The residual and delayed effects of pesiticide appplication on pest control
Due to the residual effects and delayed response to a chemical control tactics, it is very important to understand how long the pesticides remain active to control pests and when the reduction of the pest population begins to occur. To do this, we proposed the mathematical models which include the residual and delayed effects to pesticide application, and then we investigated two cases from practical point of view: the size of pest population could not reach the Economic Injury Level before harvesting season and the size of pest population could exceed the Economic Threshold many times. The time when to apply pesticides, the effects of residual effects and delayed response to a pesticide application on the pest control were discussed in detail. Some numerical simulations were carried out to confirm the main results.
