Study on Covariates Selection in the Statistical Evaluation of Artificial Precipitation Enhancement Effects
On the basis of 1997-2007 meteorological data from April to July and the characteristics of cloud seeding in Jilin Province, the correlationship between precipitation and other meteorological factor, such as pressure, temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, sunshine hours and dew point, is analyzed for seeking the suitable covariates in the cloud seeding effect evaluation. Results of the conventional correlation analysis indicates that wind speed has little relation with precipitation, failing in the significance test at the level 0.05. The canonical correlation analysis demonstrates that temperature, relative humidity and dew point have positive correlation with precipitation. So the three indices can be selected as covariates during statistical evaluation of artificial precipitation enhancement effects.
